Dell to cut jobs; weakening IT demand

NEW YORK: Computer maker Dell said on Tuesday that it sees “further softening” in demand of IT products across the world in the current quarter and expects to cut its headcount amid other cost cutting initiatives.

The job cut warning from Dell comes amidst another global PC major Hewlett-Packard announcing close to 25,000 job cuts across the world as part of integration process of its recent EDS acquisition.

In a statement here, Dell said that it had reported “continued conservatism” in IT spending in the US when it announced its Q2 results last month, which has now extended into Western Europe and several countries in Asia.
